This is a beautiful story. I loved it! My heart aches for those Americans who had to endure such hardship from their own country.

"As he left the hotel, Henry looked west to where the sun was setting, burnt sienna flooding the horizon. It reminded him that time was short, but that beautiful endings could still be found at the end of cold, dreary days." pg. 77

"Like so many things Henry had wanted in life-like his father, his marriage, his life-it had arrived a little damaged. Imperfect. But he didn't care, this was all he'd wanted. Something to hope for, and he'd found it. It didn't matter what condition it was in." pg. 142

I have to admit, I wasn't too excited to read this book when I read the description. There are too many Romeo & Juliet stories out there. But I loved this story. It hooked me right away and I fell in love with the characters.

I love how the most unexpected people end up being a friend. Like Mrs. Beatty. Real life is like that too.

My favorite quote is on pg. 134

" 'You just gave me hope, Henry.' Mr. Okabe shook Henry's small hand and looked him in the eye. 'And sometimes hope is enough to get you through anything.'"
