The setting for this book is Salem, Massachusetts, so this should be a perfect time of the year to learn about that city's history of witchcraft. Secrets abound, and spirits are watching, so get cozy and comfy when reading this thought provoking book.

I was completely shocked! I had to reread the last two chapters and skim through the book again to make sure I was reading it right...even now I'm not so sure I did. It reminded me of the first time I watched M. Night Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense. I was a little confused and astounded at the ending so I had to watch it again to finally get it (I'm a little slow sometimes). I enjoyed it. I've thought about it ever since I finished it, so, it must be a good book to get me thinking so much!
After reading the Lace Reader it made me want to learn how to read lace. As I went to find some lace I realized that I was like Anya, "it's just that I'm not a lace person". I guess I will wait until book club when hopefully Jennifer will bring some lace. Since this is the second book with phrenology in it maybe I will take that up instead!
P.S. For all you readers that have no appreciation for "end reading", I must say that reading the end 1/3 of the way thru did not change the impact of the book or the flow of tears at the end. It also gave me a different perspective as I read the book that others did not have.
I found this book intriguing and wish that lace reading was real. I would go to one! I found it slow but worth the effort if you stick with it!
What this book needs is a three sentence summary of section one. That way you could learn quickly what happened in the first section (which frankly, is not much) and then move into the interesting part of the story. Glad I kept with it.
