This was a hard book to read. Even though it has a happy ending it is still sad to see the abuse some children experience. It is also nice to know that today once the children were taken into the system they would not have been returned as often as this family was returned.

This books makes me thankful for the good people who try to provide a safe home for foster kids. Hopefully the small work I do with the foster care board will help ensure some children are never returned home to such abuse.

It is important for people to write books like this so maybe we can work to fix the foster care system. Knowledge is never a bad thing.

I really struggle with books on this subject matter and find it hard to put my thought into words right now. I almost didn't make it passed the first chapter. It made me angry and sad throughout, but was very glad it ended the way it did.

Favorite quote:
Ms. Muse continues, telling me I need to always make sure I have a library card, that reading will help me wherever I end up. "Stay smart, stay sharp, and never, ever stop reading," she whispers in my ear.

Such a hard story to hear/read but like Lauri said - these stories are important. It made me sad but I am glad that the siblings made something of their lives and that it had a somewhat happy ending.
