The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society

Okay ladies, here is the name of the book for our September 29th meeting:

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
By: Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows

Here's what it looks like just in case you get it mixed up with another book by the same name:

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer: Book Cover

I just ordered myself a copy.  As soon as it comes in, I'd be happy to let anyone borrow it.  Just let me know.  Happy Reading!

I LOVED this book. All the characters became friends and I was sad when it ended. Juliet was so funny. Elizabeth was a hero. Isola was bewitching. Adelaide was bitter. I may even have to buy the book and add it to my personal library!

When I opened to start reading it, I was disappointed: I normally don't like books written in letter form. But this book enchanted me. It was so descriptive and real. I can really picture the characters, their sorrows and joys. What a wonderful book and what wonderful characters. It's a book I will read over and over again!

This was a great book. It was a quick read and kept me interested until the end. The characters were so well written that I found myself loving Elizabeth, laughing my head off at Isola, cheering on Dawsey...etc. Definately one that I would recommend.

I too LOVED this book! It is so well written and descriptive that it makes me want to go visit Guernsey and meet all these characters. It is quite funny too. I love the way she captures their quirkiness and wit. I suggest reading it to anyone.

I would have given up on this book if it weren't for a little book club peer pressure--it's definitely a slow starter. But I'm so glad I stuck with it. It's a beautifully written book with characters you will admire, laugh with and wish they were in your circle of friends.

When I read "I would rather whine than count my blessings" I knew it would be a book I would like.

I too enjoyed this book. At first I was a little leery, the letter form of writing is not my favorite. But it worked in this case, it actually made it more intimate, the characters were more open with their feelings when writing than in person. I felt like I could be friends with these people. I was disappointed with Elizabeth, I felt she should have been more careful so her daughter could have a mother. I was very glad that Juliet and Dawsey finally figured things out.
